Walter O. Rivers

Memorial Services for Walter O. Rivers, 49, will be conducted on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in the Chapel of Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Road Broussard, LA. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10 am and religious services will begin at 12 noon with Reverend Francis Fontenot officiating. Military Honors by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow the Memorial Service.
Walter Rivers, formerly of West Hartford, Connecticut; Orlando, Florida; Germany; Vermont; Roanoke, Virginia; and Kaplan, Louisiana, raconteur of the world, devoted son, beloved brother, a man above other men passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016.
Walter was a chef for many years in a variety of capacities, most recently in the offshore industry based in Louisiana. He loved to cook and was happiest while cooking, but was also a mechanic par excellence.
Walter had many friends and would have given the shirt off his back to help anyone. Walter was an Army veteran, and honorably and proudly served his country.
He touched so many lives in so many ways. He was always there for us: he made us proud. Walter did things his way. He was our biggest supporter. He will be remembered always in our hearts. Rest in peace and comfort. May there be fish in heaven.
Walter is survived by brothers Andy Rivers from Connecticut and George Rivers of Washington DC, and by sister Ria Hilton of Roanoke, Virginia.
