Roland Guidry

GUEYDAN - A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church for Roland J. Guidry, 73 of Gueydan, on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 10 a.m. Visitation were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 17, from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. by Jean Istre. Visitation resumed on Thursday, June 18, at 8 a.m. until the time of his funeral Mass. Roland was laid to rest in Gueydan Cemetery with Father Clint Trahan officiating.
Roland was born in Abbeville, on December 15, 1941 to the late Joseph Guidry and the late Ezette Thompson Guidry. Roland was called to his heavenly Father on June 16, 2015. Roland worked for Talens Marine for twenty five years as a Manger of Operations. He was a Lector and a member of the Knights of Columbus for over eight years. He enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. In his spare time Roland loved spending time with his family that he held dear to his heart. Roland was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Roland is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Judy Foreman Guidry of Gueydan; one son, Anthony Steven Guidry (Kay) of Kaplan; one daughter, Cindy Sonnier (Michael) Kaplan; three brothers, Robert Guidry (Mona) of Gueydan, Norman Guidry (Kim) of Abbeville, Patrick ”Pat” Guidry (LaDonna) of Iowa; two grandsons, Scott Sonnier (Kiley) of Gueydan, Zachary Guidry of Kaplan; one great grandchild, Slade Sonnier of Gueydan.
Roland is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph “Gro” Guidry and Ezette T. Guidry.
Carrying Roland to his final resting place in the Gueydan Cemetery were Scott Sonnier, Lester Foreman, John Trahan, Rocky Guidry, Patrick “Pat” Guidry and Robert Guidry.
