Phillip “Phil” Simon

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at a 1:00 PM Mass of Christian Burial in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille for Phillip “Phil” Simon, 68, who died on Monday, February 16, 2015 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be held at a later date in St. John’s Mausoleum.
Reverend Aaron Melancon, Pastor of St. Theresa Catholic Church, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Jeanne Hebert and Mary Landreneau. Giftbearers will be Blake and Derek Landreneau. Charlotte Colomb, vocalist, accompanied by Karen Broussard, organist, will sing for the servies, “Amazing Grace,” “Be Not Afraid,” “Here I Am Lord,” and “Shall We Gather at the River.”
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife and best friend, Brenda A. Simon; one step-daughter, Jeanne Hebert; and one grandson, Brendan Benoit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Starling and Ouida Gooch Simon.
Phillip Doyle Jude Simon was a native of Kaplan, Louisiana and a resident of Lafayette for most of his life. He was a very distinguished attorney and owned and operated his own firm, Phillip D.J. Simon Attorney at Law, practicing for over 35 years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved duck and goose hunting as well as fishing. He enjoyed a good bourée card game, going to Red Lerille’s, loved football, and could often be found cheering on his favorite teams, ULL Ragin Cajuns, Georgia Bulldogs, or the New Orleans Saints. Mr. Simon kept up with his fraternity brothers of SAE, and often gathered at Pete’s Sports Bar and Grill to reminisce about their college days. He was an animal lover and had a variety of pets including his K-9 dogs Myles, Bubba, Rudy and Rusty, as well as his feline buddies, LC, Kalye, Stormy, Maurice and Cookie. Mr. Simon loved spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family requests that visitation be observed in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Location on Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of services.
The family would like to give special thanks to the nurses and staff of Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center 3rd floor, Dr. Brierre and his staff, 5th floor oncology department, as well as Hospice of Acadiana for their kindness, compassion and gentle care given to Mr. Simon and his family during their time of need.
