Oscar J. “Jay” Hebert, Jr.

OCALA, Fla. – Oscar J. “Jay” Hebert, Jr., 85, passed away, Thursday, November 14, 2013.  Born in Louisiana and graduated from LSU.  
Jay served in the United States Air Force during WWII.  He moved to Florida in the early 60’s for professional reasons.  He married Barbara Mackay May 5, 1962.  Jay spent 37 years working for the University of Florida as Director of the Cooperative Extension Service for Central Florida.   He was active in many service organizations including Rotary Club of Orlando, board member of Central Florida YMCA, Knights of Columbus, Florida Cattlemen’s Association, IFAS and American Legion.  He was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International.  In 1976 he was named “Man of the Year” by the Central Florida YMCA.  Jay was very active in Y-Indian Guides with his four sons.  Jay’s passions were his family and college football, especially his LSU Tigers.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Barbara Mackay Hebert; four sons, Jay (Terry) Hebert, St. Petersburg, Florida, Hugh (Linda) Hebert, Cape Coral, Florida, Randy (Susan) Hebert, Ocala, Florida, Chris (Alex) Hebert, Traverse City, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Andrew, Jacqueline, Hugh, Eric, Johnny, Robbie, Lauren, Connor and Elizabeth Hebert and several nieces and nephews.  
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinsons.org.
A memorial mass will be held Saturday, November 23, 2013 at 11 AM at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 5 Southeast 17th Street, Ocala, FL 34471 with Father Patrick Sheedy officiating.  Private inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park.  Arrangements by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services, 910. E. Silver Springs Blvd, Ocala, Florida.
