Nelwyn McWilliams Musumeche

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, September 30, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Lafayette, LA for Nelwyn McWilliams Musumeche, 78, a longtime resident of Lafayette who passed away on September 25, 2016 at Lafayette General Hospital. Reverend Steve Horn will conduct the services with interment following at Fountain Memorial Gardens. Musical selections will include “It is Well with My Soul”, “Look for me at Jesus’ Feet” (Sung on CD by Michael Booth of the Booth Brothers).
Mrs. Musumeche was born in Beaumont, Texas on March 13, 1938 and resided in Silsbee, Texas for many years after which she moved with her family to Abbeville, Louisiana. She graduated from Abbeville High School and attended what was then called SLI as well as Houston Community College.
The joy of her life were her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Survivors include her beloved husband and friend of 59 years, Rocco J. Musumeche, Jr.; one son, Rocco J. Musumeche, III (Laurie) of Livermore, California; two daughters, Tammy Stanfield (Rick) of Huntsville, Texas and Jacinda Roy (Chad) of New Iberia; four grandchildren, Jessica S. Prince (Joshua) of Sachse, TX, Joshua Stanfield of Shelby, NC, Colin Roy and Cameron Roy of New Iberia; two great grandchildren, Jax and Jett Prince of Sachse, TX; three step grandchildren, Roxanne Cirini, Sherry McGowen and Kirk McGowen; three step great grandchildren, Cameron Cirini, Roman Cirini, Klara McGowan all of Livermore, California. She loved her family, loved having them during the summer and at Christmas time in her home and loved making memories with them. She also enjoyed going with the family to Gulf Shores, AL for family vacation.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Lloyd and Hazel P. McWilliams and her only sibling; one brother, W. L. McWilliams, Jr.
Mrs. Musumeche was a long-time faithful member of First Baptist Church where she served many years as a Children’s Choir pianist, Sunday School Records Secretary and most recently was elected a trustee of the church. She was also a 50-plus year member of Lafayette Chapter #46 Order of the Eastern Star, The Society of Petroleum Engineers Auxiliary, Chevron Retirees Chapter and served as an officer in each organization. She worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant. She loved playing the piano, reading, baking and computer work. She also spent many hours with a group at the nursing home, playing the piano and singing with the residents.
The family requests that visitation be made at Delhomme Funeral Home from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Thursday, September 29, 2016 and again on Friday from 9:00 am until time of service at First Baptist Church.
Donations may be made to First Baptist Church Lafayette or to the charity of your choice.
Pallbearers will include Rocco Musumeche, III, Rick Stanfield, Chad Roy, Colin Roy, Cameron Roy, Joshua Stanfield, Joshua Prince. Honorary pallbearers are James McWilliams, Alan Worthey, Cameron and Roman Cirini, Kirk McGowen, Jax and Jett Prince, and the deacon body of First Baptist Church of Lafayette, LA.
