Merrita Domingue Oldenburg

September 26, 1929 - November 5, 2016

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at an 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Merrita Domingue Oldenburg, 87, who died on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Camelot of Broussard surrounded by her family.
Entombment will be in St. Peter Mausoleum in Carencro.
Reverend Michael Delcambre will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Giftbearers will be her five granddaughters. Pallbearers will be her nine grandsons.
She leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters, Karen Hoyt and husband Fred of Abbeville, Sue Miner and husband Keith of Metairie, and Faye Raymond of Kenner ; two sons, George Oldenburg and wife Marleen of Broussard, and Kirk Oldenburg and wife Sandra of Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; fourteen grandchildren, Boyd and Richard Hoyt, and Kristen Hoyt White, Keith, Jr., Jeffery, and Jennifer Miner, Matthew, Michael, and Mitchell Oldenburg, Veronica, Kirk II, and Christopher Oldenburg, Natalie and Emily Jeansonne; and twelve great grandchildren; her sister, Helen Horaist of Sunset, and her sister in law, Mackie Domingue of Lafayette.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Alvin Matthew Oldenburg; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Delpha Domingue; and her siblings, Frank, Roy, Pat, and Harold Domingue, Lucy Domingue Conques, and Juanita Domingue Trahan.
Merrita Oldenburg, lovingly known as “Ree”, was a founding parishioner of St. Clement of Rome Parish Church and School in Metairie, LA where she served as assistant principal and teacher from 1969-1998. She touched many lives through her dedicated service as an educator and her legacy continues to this day. Through her support and guidance as an administrator, the school flourished, laying the foundation for St. Clement of Rome School achieving the status of the first accredited elementary parochial school in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She worked closely with the Presentation Sisters and Father Vosbein. Merrita was the recipient of several awards including the Order of St. Louis Award and the Clem Award. A woman of great faith, she was a devoted member of the St. Ann’s Society in Carencro, LA and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 7:00 PM in Martin & Castille’s DOWNTOWN Location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Wednesday from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 AM until time of services.
