Martha Pond Smith

GUEYDAN — The family and friends of Martha P. Smith are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on September 13, 2015, at the age of 87. Martha was born in Parma, ID, to Cecil Pond and Hazel Betts Pond on October 18, 1927. Martha was a resident of Gueydan for more than seventy years. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church of Gueydan, that she loved dearly. She was a homemaker, who devoted her life to take care of her family. Martha also loved flowers, fishing and being outdoors. She also liked baking and canning for her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her and fondly remembered for her giving spirit.
Martha is survived by her five sons, Fisk T. Smith, III (Kathy) of Boise, ID, James Everett Smith (Denise) of West Lafayette, IN, Leo Paul Smith (Diane) of Gueydan, LA, Dale Irwin Smith (Theresa) of Gueydan, LA, Gordon Emick Smith (Deanne) of Joplin, MO; three daughters, Janet Elaine Smith Rozas (James) of Youngsville, LA, Lottie Smith Humphries (Dennis) Gulf Breeze, FL, Mary Smith Herpin (Floyd) of Gueydan, LA; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 60 years, F.T. Smith, Jr.; her parents, Cecil and Hazel Pond as well as three grandchildren; four brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services for Martha Nellie Smith will be held at First United Methodist Church in Gueydan on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Joe Hoover and Deacon Ellices Rices officiating. Burial will follow in the Gueydan Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Monday, September 14th from 3:30 PM until 10:00 PM and will resume on Tuesday at 7:00 AM until the time of her funeral service.
Carrying Martha to her final resting place will be James Rozas, Elizabeth Rozas, Michael Smith, Aaron Herpin, Adam Herpin and Michael Lasher.
