Martha Griffin
Martha Griffin, born January 17, 1929 in Vicksburg, Miss., passed away July 8, 2015.
Mrs. Martha had a twin sister, Mary Elizabeth Griffin, who passed away at the age of 24. Her parents Ernest and Bessie Griffin both of Vicksburg are deceased.
Martha went to Charity Hospital in New Orleans for her training to be a RN, where she met her husband Eric Joseph LeBlanc. The two married in Vicksburg, then moved to Abbeville to live and raise their family.
She worked at the Old Palms Hospital, then moved back to Vicksburg, working at the Vicksburg hospital while there. She then returned to Abbeville and went back to work at Abbeville General where she was a night supervisor for 42 years.
She was blessed with four children, Eric Michael LeBlanc Sr. from New Iberia, Louisiana, Mary Elizabeth LeBlanc from Abbeville, Katharine L. Meaux from Abbeville and Mathew James LeBlanc (deceased in 2004).
On July 8, 2015 at 1:27 in the afternoon, she took her last breath here on earth. Surrounded by her daughter Katharine, her husband Michael Meaux, her Grandson Christopher P. Meaux and his wife Fay Meaux, great-grand daughter Jaycee Renee Meaux, her grandson Chad Michael Meaux, his fiancé Christy Broussard LeJeune, daughter Hannah Quebodeaux, son Spencer LeJeune, Grandson Jonathan Leblanc, his wife Jennifer LeBlanc and great grand daughter Alexus LeBlanc. After her passing, surrounded at her bed, all the members of the family held hands saying the Lords Prayer. Mrs. Martha had a total of 13 grand children and 20 great grand children.
Services will be held at Charity Baptist Church, located on Hwy 14 Veteran’s Memorial Drive in Abbeville, La., on July 25, 2015 between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. that evening. She will be laid to rest at Saint Paul cemetery at a later date.
I, Katharine, her daughter, would like to say thanks to my boys, their family, and my nephew and his family for their support for me at this time as well. Also to Abbeville General Hospital and staff that Mom worked with, thank you for the care they gave to Mom throughout the years. Thanks to Dr. Ronald Lahasky and staff. Thanks to Acadian Homecare in Abbeville for their care. Thanks to Shellie, mom’s nurse who came to check on my Mom, and the office staff. Thanks to Our Lady of Lourdes in Lafayette. A big thanks to Hospice of Acadiana for their support to our family in the hospital and at home. As well as a thank you to Louisiana Funeral and Crematory in Broussard for all their needed help at this time. Thank you to Oubes for the help with the head stone in New Iberia.
