Kevin D. Villejoin

January 11, 1965 ~ November 10, 2013

KAPLAN—Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at a 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church honoring the life of Kevin D. Villejoin, 48, who died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Abrom Kaplan Memorial Hospital.  He will be laid to rest at Leroy Cemetery with Reverend Gregory Simeon officiating the services.
Second only to his wife, Kevin’s true love was the fire service where he remained a dedicated servant for over 27 years. His tenure in the fire service began early in his life, he served as a junior firefighter, first responder, assistant chief and as a member of the board of directors.
In 2006, Kevin was promoted to fire chief. As Chief, Kevin was instrumental in procuring improvements to the fire station, gear for fire fighting and other apparatuses, including fire trucks. Notably, two trucks were purchased exclusively with funding by the department; these include unit 502, a four wheel drive truck used to fight brush fires, and most recently unit 521, a rescue truck used to respond to medical emergencies.
As head of the fire department, Kevin became a mentor and a friend to all who served under him. Kevin was a leader and through his strength and perseverance, he taught his department how to help others, how to save property and how to save lives.
The Indian Bayou fireman will have their final opportunity to serve their Chief, serving as pallbearers will be Curtis Campbell, Blake Miller, Donald Gaspard, Gabe Duhon, Marshall Thomas and Deral Hebert. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers will be Jackie Gaspard, Vernon Doucet, Sylvester McAulliffe, Heath Broussard, Ryan Broussard, Spencer Bertrand, Kasey Meaux, Vernis Leger, Tim Mouton, Christopher Miller and Jacob Langlinais. Chief Villejoin will be carried by Indian Bayou Unit 521 to his final resting place.
He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Vanessa D. Villejoin of Indian Bayou; his parents, Len and Alice Villejoin of Indian Bayou; three sisters, Katrina Villejoin of Abbeville, Shantell and her husband Russ Landry of Erath and Carla and her husband John Haley of Houston, TX; four godchildren, Constance Villejoin and her fiance`, Curtis ”Buddah” Campbell, Gavin Landry, Caden Campbell and Abbigail Haley; two nephews, Trevor Georgia and Chance Desormeaux; his father and mother-in-law, Roland and Fayetta Desormeaux of Kaplan and his brother-in-law, Michael Desormeaux and his wife Alachia of Henry.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Eugene and Aline Villejoin; and his maternal grandparents, Eraste and Beaulah Broussard.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, November 11, 2013 from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, November 12, from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. when the procession will depart for the church.
