Frank E. Ryan

Frank E. Ryan, 87, of Santa Fe and formerly of Galveston, passed away Tuesday, November 2, 2016. He was born March 6, 1929 in Galveston, TX. Frank was a devout Catholic, attending Sacred Heart Church in Galveston and Our Lady of Lourdes in Hitchcock. He was also a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus. Frank served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in Guam.
Frank met his beloved wife, Hazel, in 1977, and they married in 1979. He was a very talented leader in the construction and property maintenance industry. Frank was a highly skilled carpenter by trade. He began his career in the 1960’s with Fletcher Emerson Company. While employed with Emerson, Frank met Don Mafrige and began working with Don Mafrige Real Estate on properties developed in both Houston and Galveston. Frank eventually moved to Galveston and presided over the construction of several strip shopping centers while continuing responsibility for the maintenance management of the Ft. Crockett Apartments. Frank retired in 2006, but then worked for six years at Home Depot.
Frank was an extremely loyal and reliable man. He loved to smoke turkeys, dance with his wife, and also enjoyed casino trips to Las Vegas. No job was too big or too small for Frank; he was always quick to volunteer to help someone, and enjoyed projects that made a difference for people. He was proud to have built the cry room at Sacred Heart Church.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Percy and Georgeanna Ryan; brothers, Percy and Walter Ryan; and sisters, Mary and Ethel Cruz.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel; and stepson, Michael James Luquette and wife, Flora.
Frank’s family will receive visitors beginning at 5:00 pm, Monday, November 7, 2016, at Malloy & Son Funeral Home. A rosary will begin at 6:00 pm, led by the Knights of Columbus.
Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Hitchcock. Burial will be held in Abbeville, Louisiana.
