GUEYDAN -  The family and friends of Eva May Mayer are mourning the loss of their loved one who was called from this life on November 11, 2013 and embraced in the arms of Jesus.  She was 71 years old. Eva was born in Kaplan, LA to Floyd Leger and Mary Benoit Leger on November 3, 1941. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to taking care of her beloved husband, Volly Joseph Mayer and raising their two children. Eva was a loyal member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Her devotion to God serves as a comfort to her family, knowing she is safe and happy with him in Heaven. She was a faithful parishioner of her Catholic faith and a living example of God’s grace to her children and grandchildren. Eva enjoyed crocheting, listening to music, and visits with her friends. Eva is survived by her husband, Volly Joseph Mayer of Gueydan; one son, Christopher J. Mayer (Leona “Lonnie”) of Alaska; one daughter, Mary M. Roy (Geoffry) of Klondike; a brother, Vernis Leger (Sandra) of Gueydan; one sister, Irene Overley also of Gueydan; and her four beautiful grandchildren.

 Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mary B. Leger; and a great nephew, Gavin Overley.

 A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Father Corey Campeaux officiating. Burial will follow in Kaplan Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Thursday, November 14 from 2:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 6 p.m. Visiting hours will resume on Friday at 8 a.m. until the time of her funeral mass.
