GUEYDAN - It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Eula Mae Breaux Garrie announces her passing from this life on November 11, 2013 at the age of 96. Eula Mae was born in Morse to Jenius Breaux and Aspize Trahan Breaux on October 7, 1917. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. She was a faithful parishioner of her Catholic faith and a living example of God’s grace to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren that she loved so dearly. She was also a member of the Cameron Parish Home Demonstration Club. Eula Mae enjoyed gardening, baking, and raising yard animals. Eula Mae is survived by her two daughters, Mervina Newman (Dalton) and Lucy Henry (Learney) all of Midland; one sister, Bernice Suire of Gueydan; four grandchildren, Stephanie Suire of Westlake, Keri Lucas (Rodney) of Crowley, Darla Nawaz (Ahmad) of Midland, and Kourie Martin (Travis) also of Midland, nine great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren, and one step great great grandchild.
Eula Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Oran Garrie; parents, Jenius and Aspize T. Breaux; an infant daughter, Telsa Gary; a grandson, Chad Newman; two grand babies; a sister, Ouida Bertrand; and two brothers, Elliot Breaux and Ernie Breaux.
A mass of Christian burial was held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at 2 p.m. Burial followed in Istre Cemetery. Visitation were held at Matthews and Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 from 5 p.m. until the time of her funeral mass on Wednesday at 2 p.m. A rosary was recited Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. and also a French rosary at 7 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers were, Rodney Lucas, Travis Martin, Jimmie Bertrand, Ernest Breaux, Jr., Ricky Breaux and Allen Kelnor. Honorary pallbearers was Wayne Breaux and Leroy Breaux, Sr. The readers for mass were Eula Mae’s granddaughter, Keri Lucas and her niece, Judy Comeaux. Presenting the offerings during mass were Eula Mae’s four great grandchildren and two of her great great grandchildren.
