Jeanette Olivia Le‘ge‘-Atkins
The angels burst into song because a servant of the MOST HIGH, Jeanette Olivia Le‘ge‘-Atkins was born Monday, March 28, 1938 to Davis Le‘ge’ and Lillian He‘bert-Le‘ge’ in Grosse Isle, LA (a suburb of Abbeville, LA). Before the foundations of the earth the MOST HIGH fashioned her with the gift to nurture, one of her many gifts to mankind.
At eighteen (18) years of age, Jeanette left Grosse Isle, LA to study nursing in El Paso, TX. There she lived with her brother Milton and his family.
In 1959, she moved to Beaumont, TX, and, while there, she met and married Murray L. Atkins, Jr., Tuesday, April 12, 1960. It was there, that the LORD started to establish and lay roots for her most accentuated gift-helping others. Whenever others needed help, she always found a way to arrange her schedule to be there to help, even with the demands of a single mother (after becoming a widow in 1975) that worked multiple jobs, and, later in life, her availability to people in need of help was magnified. Along with compassion for others, she enjoyed reading, gardening, and spending time with her family.
Jeanette also retired as a bus driver with the Beaumont Independent School District. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary Court 214 where she served in many roles of leadership.
However, on that appointed time of Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 2:45PM the KING of all Kings summoned a multitude of angels that rushed to earth to gather the soul of another battle-harden, faithful, and steadfast servant to be ushered into HIS PRESENCE. Jeanette Olivia Lege’-Atkins was FACE to face with the LORD of all Lords, and heard, “Job well done, my good and faithful servant” come in to an unimaginable-world of peace. Oh, how badly she is missed, and how the earth was blessed with seventy-eight years of her, but one day we will see her with her new resurrected body just like our LORD the MESSIAH rose from the grave to conquer sin and death.
Jeanette Olivia Le‘ge’-Atkins was proceeded to GLORY by her father, mother, husband, brother-David Le‘ge’, sister-Yvonne Le‘ge’ Bell, brother-John Le‘ge’, sister-Lorraine Le‘ge’-Minnick, and brother-Milton Le‘ge’.
She has temporarily departed from: her four children; Jennifer E. Atkins, Marguerite J. Lane (Donnell) , Kimberly J. Atkins all of Beaumont, TX, and one son Murray L. Atkins III (Ella) living in Louisiana; eleven grandchildren (Shonte’ R. Cooley (Rodney), Phillip Battles Jr., Jared A. Jones (Marleshia), Josiah Atkins, Maia Atkins, Uriah Atkins, Asaiah Atkins, Hananiah Atkins, Benaiah Atkins, Obadiah Atkins, and Hadassah Atkins); six great grandchildren (Malayia, Kayln, Bailey, Eden, Jared Jr., and David); four sisters (Marguerite Durall, Mary Washington, Lillian Bourgeois, and Delores Martin; her very dear friend of fifty plus years (Ruby Seale); a host of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The family would like to express their thanks to the hospital staff at Glenwood Regional Medical Center in West Monroe, LA, headed by Dr. Jeffrey Harris, for the love and affection extended to our mother, Jeanette.
Jeanette was cremated in West Monroe, LA. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Pastor G. W. Bryant, 1165 I-10 Frontage Road, Beaumont, Texas. 10AM-11AM will be a time to express personal condolences to the family. Memorial Service will begin at 11AM, and Repast will follow at the Church.
