Vitter: 7 Louisiana Parishes Eligible for Public Assistance

(Metairie, La.) – U.S. Senator David Vitter (R-La.) today announced that seven Louisiana parishes are eligible to apply for public assistance following the severe storms and flooding along the Mississippi and Red Rivers. On Friday, President Obama made a Federal Emergency Declaration for parts of Louisiana affected. On January 11, Vitter along with the entire Louisiana Congressional delegation, urged President Obama to make an emergency declaration.

“Louisiana’s unique geographical position is an economic blessing, but being down river and our vast coastline makes us vulnerable to flooding and natural disasters,” Vitter said. “Our office has been reaching out to local officials to offer assistance in applying for the disaster aid.”

Public Assistance for equipment and emergency resources will be made available to the following parishes at 75 percent federal funding: Concordia, Plaquemines, Pointe Coupee, St. Landry, St. Mary, Terrebonne, and West Feliciana. Those parishes can apply for protective measure assistance at LouisianaPA.com.
