Abbeville boys end a four game losing streak
The Abbeville Wildcats ended a four-game losing streak by beating Cecilia 53-46 on Friday night.
The Wildcats got a season-high 22 points from senior Demarcus Collins. Collins had 12 points in the first half.
Both teams went back and forth in the first half,
Abbeville led 13-10 after the first period an then Cecilia came back and tied the game a couple of times in the second period.
The Bulldogs went ahead 27-25 at the 2:30 mark in the second period. But AHS scored the final four points to go into the locker room lead, 29-27.
Kevin Williams for Abbeville had a steal and went coast to coast for a layup as time expired in the first half.
In the second half, Collins scored seven straight points to push Abbeville’s lead 38-29.
Cecilia battled back and cut it to a one-point AHS lead with a minute to play in the third period.
With two minutes left in the game, Abbeville led by only one point, 47-46.
Abbeville’s Matt Johnson hit a clutch shot to make a 3-point game, 49-46, with 1:49 to play in the game.
With a three-point lead, Abbeville went to a four-corner spread and played keep away.
Williams made two free throws with 53 seconds play. Johnson had a big steal for Abbeville with 31 seconds left in the game. From that point, the Wildcats did not take another shot.
Johnson made four points, while Williams finished with eight. Nadaerion Mouton and Jacolby Senegal each had two points.
Jahidi White (6), Tyrese Sam (5) and Javontaie Johnson (2) were Abbeville’s other scorers.
