VC Lady Eagles beat Delcambre; North Vermilion falls in 2 OTs

DELCAMBRE - The Vermilion Catholic Lady Eagles went on a 15-2 run right before half time against the Delcambre Lady Panthers and then cruised to a 48-27 win.
VC led 19-16 against Delcambre with three minutes to play in the first half of the Lynette Viator Memorial Tournament in Delcambre. The shooting of Haley Faulk and Jay Demouchet helped spark the first-half run.
Faulk, a senior, finished with a career-high 15 points. Demouchet, a freshman, led VC with 21 points.
The Lady Eagles made the run with Delcambre’s top scorer on the bench in foul trouble. Senior Nicole Bouillion picked up two fouls in the first quarter. She sat the second period when VC made its run.
In the third period, Bouillion nailed a 3-pointer to make it a 40-27 game with 3:43 to play in the third quarter. It would be as close as Delcambre (1-4) would get to VC (5-1).
Bouillion, Taylor Moneaux and Kessler Dooley each scored nine points for Delcambre. Other scorers for Delcambre were Tayah Lewis (7), Saige LeBlanc (5) and Mai Pope (4).
Scorers for VC were Bella Doucet (6), Kelly White (8), Leah Camel (4) and Kaitlyn Bertrand (2).

The North Vermilion Lady Patriots opened the tournament, losing to Franklin 43-40 in two over-times.
The North Vermilion Lady Patriots had a chance to win it in regulation with 18 seconds to go but could not make a basket, sending it to overtime.
In the first overtime, the game was tied twice. Emily Faulk nailed two free throws with 45 seconds to play that tied it 35-35.
Neither team scored in the final 45 seconds.
In the second overtime, the Lady Patriots took its only lead on Kaylee Lopez’s free throw, 36-35, 30 seconds into the second overtime.
North Vermilion would never regain the lead.
Lopez finished with 11 points. Faulk had 14. Ariel Plowden scored 6, while Zoe Graham also made 6. Bailey Broussard made 2 points for NVHS.
