Go vote on Saturday
Saturday’s the big day.
Voters around Louisiana will decide on the next governor, as well as other top elected officials.
Vermilion Parish voters will be among those picking Louisiana’s next leaders. That is all they will be selecting from, as no local races or propositions will appear on the Vermilion Parish ballots.
Polls will open around the parish at 7 a.m. and remain so until 8 p.m. Anyone with questions regarding their voting precinct can contact Vermilion Parish Registrar of Voters Mike Bertrand’s office at 893-4324.
Vermilion Parish voters will help choose the next Governor in the runoff between Democrat John Bel Edwards and Republican David Vitter. The Lt. Governor runoff is between Democrat Melvin “Kip” Holden and Republican Billy Nungesser. Incumbent Attorney General James “Buddy” Caldewell, a Republican, is seeking re-election against Republican Jeff Landry.
Here is what will be needed when you go vote on Saturday.
• Bring a photo I.D. to the polls. (Louisiana Driver’s License, Louisiana Special I.D. card or another generally recognized picture identification card with your name and signature such as a passport).
• Voters without an I.D. will be required to fill out an affidavit but will be allowed to vote.
• By law, each voter is allowed three minutes to cast their ballot in order to expedite long lines.
Voters in line at 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
Real-time election results will be posted to the Secretary of State’s website in several formats, (Graphical, Text and Mobile)
Allow three to five minutes between refreshing results for optimal functionality. (Remember, the results must be transported from the polling locations to the Clerk of Court’s office and downloaded before populating web site.)
