Chase ends in sugarcane field

At approximately 9:50 a.m. on Aug. 17, Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint that two male subjects were beating a female in the middle of Woodlawn Road near Maurice.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon says that as deputies were responding, they received information that the two male subjects and another female had left the area in the victim’s red Honda Accord, traveling South on Woodlawn Road.
Sheriff’s Deputies intercepted a red Honda Accord fitting the description of suspects’ vehicle on La. Hwy. 82. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The subjects refused to stop.
Sheriff Couvillon says that a vehicle pursuit ensued from La. Hwy. 82 near the Woodlawn Bridge, south into the city limits of Abbeville. The suspects’ vehicle hit a pickup truck on the La. Hwy. 14 By-pass and continued through Abbeville, violating a number of traffic laws until the driver pulled into a sugarcane field north of Abbeville on Albert Road. The driver fled the scene on foot.
Two passengers in the vehicle, Rowdy Tauzin of Breaux Bridge and Shelly Harrison of Lafayette, were arrested immediately by Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Deputies. Michael Hall of Lafayette was arrested a short time later by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff’s Special Response Team and K-9 Unlimited dog team without incident.
Information obtained by officers indicates that the victim was bringing the three individuals to a job site and when she refused to bring them purchase Synthetic Marijuana a fight began.

CHARGES AR AS FOLLOWS:
• Michael Hall – Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Carjacking, False Imprisonment, Aggravated Flight from an Officer. No bond set at the present time.
• Shelly Harrison – False Imprisonment and principle to Carjacking. No bond set at the present time.
• Rowdy Tauzin - False Imprisonment and principle to Carjacking. No bond set at present time.

All three individuals have been booked into the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center and are currently being monitored due to each of them reportedly experiencing side effects from Synthetic Marijuana.
No additional information will be provided at this time as this is an ongoing investigation.
