Proceeds for Fishing for Memories Rodeo reached $125,000 mark

Proceeds from Fishing for Memories were donated to the Alzheimer’s Association Tuesday evening at the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Board meeting. The $30,000 big check from the 2015 rodeo takes the seven-year total to a quarter million dollars raised for the cause.
Carrick, Holly and Pierce Boffy, event founders and organizers, and Tricia Ory, Associate Director Louisiana Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, joined members of the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Board for the check presentation.
Holly Boffy said, “Reaching the quarter million raised milestone is exciting for our anglers, volunteers, sponsors, and community members that are impacted by this horrible disease. We are working to end Alzheimer’s and having a lot of fun making memories in the process.”
The seventh annual Fishing for Memories was held June 25 to June 28 at the Abbeville Harbor and Terminal Public Boat Launch in Intracoastal City. Over 500 anglers participated in the event with over $12,000 going to the first, second and third place winners in each of the 14 categories and 4 lifetime fishing licenses going to first place winners in the youth division. The master sponsor this year was Upland Services, Inc. Over fifty sponsors at various levels and sixty volunteers, including members of the Jr. Beta Club at Milton Elementary Middle School, made the event possible.
Fishing for Memories 2016 will be held the weekend after Father’s Day, June 23 to June 26 at the Abbeville Harbor & Terminal Public Boat Launch. The Mike Dean Band with Vermilion Parish’s Buck Verret are scheduled to play Friday, June 24. Ryan Foret & Foret Tradition are scheduled to play Saturday, June 25.
Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are available for individuals, clubs, and businesses interested in ending Alzheimer’s disease.
