Vermilion School District, 7 teachers short
Vermilion School District is in decent shape when it comes to hiring teachers for the upcoming school year.
With a couple of weeks left before school starts, the district is seven teachers short.
The district is in need of two elementary teachers, one middle school teacher and four high school teachers.
Abbeville High is in need of a social studies teacher and a consumer science teacher.
Kaplan High is in need of a social science teacher.
Seventh Ward and Eaton Park are in need of elementary teachers.
Assistant superintendent Paul Hebert, who is in charge of personnel, said he expects those teaching slots to be filled by the start of school.
Finding seven teachers is going to be a lot easier than other school districts in Acadiana.
Lafayette Parish is struggling to find teachers for certain subjects. Lafayette has 12 teaching slots open and a total of 30 positions currently open, including teachers, administrators, para professionals and others.
Iberia Parish is in the same boat as Lafayette Parish. The district is looking for around 12 certified teachers. The district is looking for math and science teachers.
