Abbeville Police provide updates for two crashes that occurred last week
The Abbeville Police Department released the names of three people involved in a fatal crash Friday night and announced that a 15-year-old hospitalized after a crash last Tuesday is showing improvement.
On the afternoon of Tuesday, July 14, officers with the Abbeville Police Department investigated a single-vehicle crash which occurred on LA Hwy. 338. Upon the officer’s arrival, a 15 year old male was located in the overturned vehicle. The 15 year old male was listed in critical condition at the time of the crash. As of Monday, the 15 year old has shown improvement and has been removed from the intensive care unit.
On the night of Friday, July 16, APD also investigated a crash involving a fatality, which occurred on Hwy. 167. This crash is still under investigation but APD is releasing the names of the persons involved. According to information obtained during the investigation, Ryan Crochet of Jennings parked the auto carrier that he was driving in the outside, southbound lane of Hwy. 167 to off load vehicles for a dealership. Crochet and his passenger, Richard Sonnier II, also of Jennings, unloaded the vehicles and were preparing to leave when the vehicle driven by Felicita Wilhelm of Abbeville, struck Richard Sonnier II, pinning him between her vehicle and the rear of the auto carrier.
Richard Sonnier II died from the injuries sustained in the crash. Wilhelm was transported to Our Lady of Lourdes with an injury to her leg along with several minor cuts. Crochet was not injured during the crash.
Abbeville Police are currently working with prosecutors on charging the drivers of both vehicles involved in this crash. This information will be released once the persons are officially charged.
