Man arrested by Sheriff's Office for allegedly burning his own truck by Woodlawn Bridge

Benjamin Menard of Duson was recently arrested by the Vermilion Parish Sheriff Office for allegedly setting his own truck on fire.
In December the sheriff’s office was called to investigate a single-vehicle fire set in a cane field on Roosevelt Road near the Woodlawn Bridge.
Through investigation work the Sheriff’s Office, detectives were able to obtain evidence that placed Menard allegedly at the location when the truck caught fire.
Sheriff’s detectives brought Menard in and according to the Sheriff’s Office, Menard allegedly confessed. Menard allegedly told the detectives that he and his friend, Joshua Lee Boggs of Maurice were “wrapping donuts” when the vehicle caught fire.
Back in December the Maurice Volunteer Fire Department were called to the burning truck. When they arrived they saw there was no body in the vehicle and a license plate was missing.
The owner of the truck reported it stolen the next morning after allegedly noticing it was not in his driveway.
Menard told the detectives that his vehicle was not stolen. Menard was arrested and charged with false swearing for purpose of violating public health or safety.
Also arrested was Boggs for obstruction of justice. He met with detectives and told them he did not know anything about the truck being stolen.
He was arrested and booked in the parish jail and his bond was set at $2,500.
The case remains under investigation and more charges are possible.
