Man wanted in connection to Abbeville shooting arrested in St. Martin

St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responding to a call of shots fired on Mardi Gras night arrested a man wanted in Abbeville for his alleged involvement in a similar case.
Andrew Granger, 20, of Abbeville remains in the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center, held on $400,000 bond. He faces charges of two counts of first-degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated criminal damage to property.
The charges stem from Granger’s alleged involvement in a shooting that occurred in Abbeville on Feb. 6. Abbeville Police found two 17-year-old victims shot near the intersection of Maude Avenue and Marmont Street. The victims were transported to separate hospitals. One received treatment prior to being released. The other remains in medical care.
After an investigation of the shooting, Abbeville Police issued a warrant for Granger, as well as one for Jarred Clement, 22, who allegedly took part in the incident.
Clement remains wanted for principal to two counts of first-degree murder, accessory to attempted first-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm. Anyone with information on Clement’s whereabouts can contact the Abbeville Police Department at 893-2511.
Eleven days after the shooting in Abbeville, St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of shots being fired around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 17 at a party in Cecilia. They located a male subject at the scene, later found to be Granger.
“He gave a name that they believed was fake,” said Abbeville Police Det. Leland Laseter, who worked with St. Martin officials to bring Granger back to Abbeville. “They brought him into the station for further investigation.”
At the station, Granger reportedly admitted to providing a false name to St. Martin officials. A check on Granger showed the warrant in Abbeville.
“They confirmed the warrant with us and he was brought back to Abbeville,” Laseter said.
Abbeville police booked Granger in the early hours of Feb. 18. Granger does not currently face charges in St. Martin. That case remains under investigation.
