Mardi Gras season has arrived!

Krewe prepares for annual parade

KAPLAN - Believe it or not, Mardi Gras season is here!
How will you know which Tuesday it will be?
You’ll find the big day can fall on any Tuesday between February 3 and March 9.
Carnival celebration starts on January 6, the Twelfth Night (feast of Epiphany); and picks up speed until midnight on Mardi Gras, the day before Ash Wednesday.
Ash Wednesday is always 46 days before Easter and Fat Tuesday is always the day before Ash Wednesday.
Easter can fall on any Sunday from March 23 to April 25 with the exact date to coincide with the first Sunday after the full moon following a Spring Equinox.
Now that you’ve had your history lesson, this year’s Mardi Gras falls on February 17 and Kaplan’s Krewe Chic-A-la-Pie, will continue their tradition of celebrating Fat Tuesday.
The krewe kicks off the carnival season by hanging their official krewe emblem flag over the city, commemorating Twelfth Night celebrations for the start of the season.
A flag will hang in City Hall as well as at the junction of Hwy 14, and Cushing through the Mardi Gras season.
By the order of Mayor Kirk Champagne, Queen Jambalaya LX Karen Price, and King Gumbo LIX Brady Price, along with other krewe members, Mardi Gras festivities are officially underway.
The Krewe will honor their 2015 royalty at their annual masked ball on January 31, at the Vermilion Fair and Festival Building in Kaplan.
The traditional Mardi Gras parade is scheduled to roll at 2 p.m. on Mardi Gras day, Tuesday, February 17 downtown on Cushing Avenue.
