Abbeville High science teacher arrested and charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile

An Abbeville High School science teacher was arrested late Tuesday night by the Kaplan Police Department after an investigation was done by the Abbeville Police Department and determined he was allegedly having sex with an Abbeville High female student.
Nick Willis, who was the science teacher at AHS for eight years and also an assistant coach, was booked into the Kaplan jail after being charged with one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
His bond was set at $200,000 by Kaplan Judge Stanton Hardee.

The definition of carnal knowledge of a juvenile is: “A person who is 17 years of age or older and has sexual intercourse, with consent, with a person who is 13 years of age or older but less than seventeen years of age, when the victim is not the spouse of the offender and when the difference between the age of the victim and the age of the offender is four years or greater.”
The 36-year-old teacher did the statistics for the football team every Friday night, and he was also an assistant basketball and softball coach.
A complaint was filled against Willis by the school district.
On Tuesday, Abbeville detectives met with school officials and interviewed possible witnesses and a student.
That night, APD investigators met with Chief Adams of Kaplan Police and his investigators who then obtained an arrest warrant for Willis and a search warrant for his residence
Kaplan police arrested Willis at his home located on 110 North Bourque Street in Kaplan. The arrest occurred just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau and Abbeville High principal Ivy Landry did not want to comment on the arrest.
The Meridional reached out to Willis before he was arrested to see if he wanted to comment about the investigation. He declined.
If found guilty, he could be sentenced to no more than 10 years in prison.
Since the arrest of Willis, law enforcement agencies have obtained numerous photos and post on social media regarding the incident. Law enforcement agencies will also be investigating possible charges for Cyber Bullying on those who made the post. This investigation is still ongoiing. Willis becomes the second Vermilion Parish teacher to be charged with carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
On April 23, 2014, then Kaplan band teacher Alex Hillard was arrested and charged with three counts of carnal knowledge of a juvenile. His bond was set at $30,000.
