Vermilion Council on Aging still collecting heaters, blankets for elderly as cold weather approaches

The Vermilion Council on Aging held a heater drive prior to Christmas, with the goal of distributing as many as possible to those elderly in need in the parish.
“We received about 17 space heaters,” said Lois Bodin, director of the Vermilion Council on Aging. “We have already distributed all of them.”
With temperatures to hold below freezing later this week, the need for warmth is still great for many elderly in Vermilion Parish.
“With that cold snap coming,” Bodin said, “I am sure our phone is going to be ringing.”
Those willing to answer the call to help can still do so. Bodin said the Council on Aging will still gladly accept space heaters. Other items, such as blankets, are also important.
“We received about 30 blankets from Acadian Ambulance,” Bodin said. “We will take anything that can help keep our elderly warm.”
Donations can be dropped off at the Vermilion Council on Aging’s facility, located on Graceland Ave. in Abbeville.
“We appreciate anything someone can do to help,” Bodin said.
