Patriots go for 2 straight wins, face West St. Mary
The North Vermilion Patriots look for two straight wins Friday, when they host West St. Mary.
North Vermilion (2-5, 1-1) is coming off an epic 14-10 victory over rival Abbeville High on a go-ahead 21-yard touchdown by Connor Dupuy with 58 seconds left.
Quarterback Ty Desormeaux finished 12-18 for 128 yards and two touchdowns. Caleb Castro led the rushing attack with 48 yards, and Taylor Abshire chipped in with 23 yards.
Dupuy was the leading receiver on the team with two receptions for 40 yards and the game winning score. The Patriot defense was able to hold the Abbeville offense to under 200 total yards, a week after they earned over 300 yards of offense against Erath.
The 2014 season has been one to forget for West St. Mary (0-7, 0-2). Not only are the Wolfpack winless, they are not competitive in most of their games. The team’s average margin of defeat in the seven games this season, has been by 30.5 points per game.
This is a downgrade for the Wolfpack, considering it was a team that won four games last season.
The offense of North Vermilion should have a good opportunity to put up a bevy of points, considering West St. Mary surrenders 43 points per game, including the 48 they gave up to Kaplan last week. In that loss, the Wolfpack allowed Kaplan to rush for over 300 yards and move the ball at will.
The season is winding down, but both teams look to creep up the district standings with a win. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
