VC cruises to a homecoming victory

The Vermilion Catholic Eagles continue to roll through District 7-1A and on Friday, Highland Baptist Bears became their latest victim.
The Eagles, now 6-1, and winners of six in a row, cruised to an impressive 46-20 Homecoming victory over Highland.
The Eagles dominated the Bears in almost every category.
They ran more plays then the Bears - 61-46.
The Eagles threw for 299 yards, compared to the Bears’ 124.
VC had one turnover, while Highland had 5.
VC had 22 first downs compared to Highland with 12.
There is one statistic that VC had more of that troubles VC head coach Russell Kuhns.
The Eagles had way more penalties than Highland. VC had 10 penalties for 95 yards, while Highland had seven for 40 yards.
“We have to eliminate penalties,” said Kuhns. “We were killing ourselves on drives. Penalties hurt us. We just got to get better.”
The Eagles broke the game open in the first period scoring 20 points.
Two minutes into the game, VC quarterback Hunter Frith connected with Tyler Derouen on a 32-yard touchdown reception.
The Eagles’ defense helped the offense out when defensive back Andre Girouard had a interception for VC. Four plays later, Frith darts 35 yards for a touchdown.
Still in the first quarter, Frith completed a 35-yard touchdown pass to Payton Trahan with two minutes to play in the first period.
Four minutes into the second period, Frith and Derouen hooked up again, this time for a 34 yard touchdown reception.
The Eagles scored again in the second quarter. Chris Campbell had a 3-yard touchdown run. Gage Trahan found William Noegel for the two-point conversion.
VC led 32-7 at halftime.
In the second half, Emile Trahan caught a 72 yard touchdown pass for the longest play of the night for VC.
“I am happy with the win,” said Kunhs. “I think we executed well. I think we played hard.
You can always get better.”
On the night, Frith had a career night. He came into the game averaging 225 yards passing a game. On Friday, he threw for a season-high 281 yards. He was 18 out of 34 and four touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, Gage Trahan took over at QB for VC. Trahan was two for four for 18 yards.
Frith’s top receivers were Emile Trahan (6-108, 1 TD), Tyler Derouen (4-95, 2 TDs), Payton Trahan (3-25, 1 TD), Devron Constintine (4-49), Donnie Comeaux (1-4), and Noegel (1-2).
Chris Campbell led VC in rushing with six totes for 46 yards. Derouen had four for 41 yards.
Other ball carriers were Nick Langlinais (2-20), Comeaux (3-16, 1 TD).
VC steps out of district and travels to Eunice to battle the Class 4A Bobcats next Friday.
