Blood Drives Gives Away Newly designed T-Shirts
GUEYDAN – United Blood Services is asking Gueydan residents to donate blood at the Gueydan Duck Festival Blood Drive on Tuesday, August 19 from 12 to 6 p.m. at Johnny’s Drive In. Donors, while supplies last, will receive the following items:
A newly designed “Quack, Quack Blood Donors Save Lives and That’s a Fact Jack Festival Blood Drive t-shirt. A FREE ride bracelet for the Gueydan Duck Festival good for either Thursday OR Saturday.
The ride bracelet sponsor is Gardiner Center Health Clinic.
Donors can now take more control of the donation process, by doing their interview online the day of their drive. To do this, donors should go to www.unitedbloodsystems.org and click on the “Health History Questionnaire” then bring a hard copy of the printed ticket with them to their donation. The health history must be completed the same day as the donation; it cannot be completed a day or two ahead of time. In fact, iphone users can even answer the questionnaire while they wait.
Volunteer blood donors must be at least 16 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. Additional height/weight requirements apply to donors 22 and younger, and donors who are 16 years of age must have signed permission from a parent or guardian. Donors receive a free cholesterol test. A photo ID is required to donate. For more information, call 337-235-5433.
United Blood Services has been this area’s non-profit community blood provider since 1953, and serves patients in 50 hospitals in 27 South Louisiana parishes. The United Blood Services network is one of the nation’s oldest and largest non-profit blood service organizations, and is a founding member of America’s Blood Centers and the AABB (formerly the American Association of Blood Banks).
