Abbeville police recover stolen electronics in home

The Abbeville Police located a room of possibly stolen items when they searched a house in Abbeville.
They located everything from the violin in a case to car amps, car radios, computers, at least 20 cell phones, an electric drill, along with other electronic equipment.
Now they are asking Abbeville residents if they had their vehicle or house broken into in the last four months. Were electronics or a violin stolen out of them? If so, contact the Abbeville Police Department. The police may have your stuff.
The way the policemen located the stolen items were by being in the right place at the right time.
An Abbeville patrol unit saw a person walking on the streets, holding a silver amp and a backpack over his shoulders. The police stopped and questioned Trent Phillips. They could not charge him with a crime because they did not know if the silver amp was his or stolen.
After driving down the block, they saw a light on in a car. They got down to check it out and noticed wires hanging.
They went talk to the home owner and informed him about his vehicle. He said he had a silver amp and a GPS that were taken.
The patrol officers, on another shift, were able to get a warrant for possession of stolen goods for stealing the amp and GPS.
The patrolmen went to 1503 Maude Avenue in search of Phillips to arrest him for allegedly stealing the amp and GPS.
While there, the officers received permission from the owner to search the house. The officers hit the jackpot and located a room full of what looked to be stolen items.
The girlfriend of Phillips told the police the items found were not hers.
David Hardy, the head detective of the police department, said some items have been identified as stolen, while many other items have not.
Residents who had items stolen out their vehicles or homes can call the police department (893-2511) in hopes of identifying recovered items.
