Ridge Simon’s Golden Heart Benefit
Six month old Ridge Simon is a warrior. He lives with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and has spent over three months of his young life in hospitals.
In September 2013 his parents Cale and Laina were given the news that their unborn child they had named, Ridge, would be born with HLHS and would require a series of three surgeries to repair his heart.
HLHS is a rare congenital heart defect in which the left ventricle of the heart is severely underdeveloped. The National Birth Defects Prevention Network estimates that birth defects occur in about three percent of live births in the United States. Of those birth defects, HLHS occurs in one out of 4,344 live births, or an estimated total of 960 live births every year in the United States.
Ridge was born November 6 at Boston Children’s Hospital where he underwent his fist within the first week of his life. He has since been back and forth to Boston with a series of complications.
Ridge is due back to the Boston Hospital this summer to undergo the second surgery.
Friends and family of the baby’s parents are joining together to help raise money for the costly proceeds that have incurred since Ridge’s birth.
There will be a benefit held on Saturday, June 14. The benefit will be held three miles south of Kaplan at the corner of Hwy 35 South and Hwy 335 West (Camp of Ray and Sis).
There will be fun activities for children and adults such as, fun jumps, train rides, craft booths auctions, volleyball tournament and live music.
Admission is $5 and children under 10 get in free. No ice chest please.
