Two bodies found in burning vehicle in Vermilion Parish

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, at approximately 1 am this morning Sheriff’s deputies responded to a vehicle fire on Claude Road, just south of Maurice.

Sheriff Couvillon says that upon the fire being extinguished by Maurice Fire Department, it was discovered that two bodies were inside the vehicle.

The cause of death has not yet been determined and the investigation is ongoing.

Sheriff Couvillon says that the Sheriff’s office is working closely with the Acadiana Crime Lab, State Fire Marshal’s Office, and State Police in the processing of the scene, and efforts are being coordinated with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff’s Intelligence unit.

At this time the deaths are considered suspicious, and updates will be provided as the investigation moves forward.
