Abbeville taking part in Lt. Gov.’s ‘Leaders Against Litter’ initiative

Leaders throughout Abbeville are joining Keep Abbeville Beautiful to participate in the inaugural “Leaders Against Litter” event this Friday, April 11, 2014. Keep Abbeville Beautiful is one of 15 Keep Louisiana Beautiful (KLB) affiliate communities across the state selected to host this statewide “litter-thon.”
In partnership with volunteer Louisiana and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor, KLB has awarded a $1,500.00 grant to host each local event in this statewide effort to heighten awareness and confront the litter problem in Louisiana.
Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne has invited local officials, stakeholders, and potential supporters to participate in the Leaders Against Litter event.
Leaders Against Litter is set to begin at 10:00am at Abbeville City Hall. The selected group will canvass the downtown area collecting litter using gold grabbers and wearing gold “Leaders Against Litter” T-Shirts. Participants will be asked to sign a pledge confirming their commitment to a cleaner community and state, and demonstrating their support for Keep Abbeville Beautiful.
Lt. Governor Dardenne, in conjunction with Keep Louisiana Beautiful and Volunteer Louisiana, will announce the total results of all the events, along with numbers of pledges signed, at a press conference at the State Capital in Baton Rouge at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 11.
The general public is encouraged to follow the example of leaders in the Abbeville community. Keeping the community beautiful by fighting litter is important to economic development and quality of life. The Keep Abbeville Beautiful organization is pleased that the Lt. Governor understands the importance of a litter free state.
In keeping with the Lt. Governors initiative Keep Abbeville Beautiful held its Great American Cleanup on Saturday, March 29th from 9am-1pm with over 100 volunteers in preparation for the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Cleanest City Contest, that is scheduled for Tuesday, April 8 at 9:30am.
