Bobcats beat Pios with late inning home run
The Erath Bobcats baseball season may not have gotten off on the best footing, but over the past couple of week the Bobcats are starting to turn things around.
That is most evident in the fact they have won four straight games, and most importantly two straight district games over the Notre Dame Pios.
The most recent victory came on Thursday night, by the final score of 8-6.
The Bobcats found themselves up 6-1 heading into the fourth inning.
The Pios would start to make a come back in the fourth inning.
They would score four runs in the top of the fourth to pull within one at 6-5.
Then a solo home run would tie the game in the top of the fifth.
It would not take the Bobcats long to rebound, and regain the lead they had lost.
In the bottom of the sixth inning Brett Delcambre would step-up to the plate and with a runner on second base, Delcambre hit the eventual game winning home run.
“We kind of let our guard down,” Erath Head Coach Davis Jordan said. We fell behind and they (Notre Dame) was able to take advantage of that, but our kids bounced back because they are resilient.
“This was a big win for us because it is starting to give us some momentum and confidence, and a confident baseball player is usually a good baseball player.”
Delcambre was the hero for the Bobcats from the plate by going 2-for-3 with the game winning two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth.
He also won the game on the mound by pitching the last two and one third innings.
Ross Granger was 3-for-3 from the plate with a triple.
Granger also started the game and pitch four and two thirds innings.
The Bobcats are now 9-9 overall and 2-0 in district play.
They will be back on the field on Tuesday when they take on district rival Kaplan at home.
