Jammin’ Under the Oaks highlights Vermilion music acts

Free event this Saturday in Abbeville

There are plenty of musicians in Vermilion Parish who, for various reasons, have not been able to showcase their talents.
That will change this Saturday morning for four acts.
Jammin’ Under the Oaks will highlight four local bands, giving the groups Magdalen Square in Downtown Abbeville as stage. Scheduled to preform Saturday are the Envies, the Specklers, Paperjam and Stephen Sagrera and Friends.
The free event, sponsored by Abbeville MainStreet and the Vermilion Arts Council, will kick off at 10 a.m., wrapping up around 1 p.m. There will be one main purpose served during that time, showcase the local talent.
“I talked recently with Tony Mayard,” Abbeville Main Street Manager Charlene Beckett said of Mayard, who is with the Vermilion Arts Council. “We realized there is a lot of talent in the area and they don’t always have a venue to perform.
“This is a new event to bring the bands and the community together.
Each of the four bands performing are from Vermilion Parish. The list of acts includes:

The Envies

This group consists of three educators that have come together as friends and musicians and have found music to be a great stress relief and a way to get families and friends together.
The group consists of Ryan Abshire on guitar, accordion, and vocals; Gerard Couvillon on lead guitar and vocal; and Charles Guardia on Bass and Vocals.

The Specklers

Jason Harrington is the lead man for the Specklers.
He has been playing professionally since he was 15. Jason plays many different venues and you can always find different local musicians joining him on stage.
This week, Mark Meaux from the Bluerunners, Zordico Stompers, and The Mercy Brothers will be joining him.
They will be performing many of Harrington’s original songs. Harrington, a school teacher is also owner of Lullaby Sound Design where he builds custom guitar amps.

Paperjam

Paperjam has been together for about three years and has played at various events throughout Vermilion parish.
The band consists of Jude Dubois on bass and drums, Davlon Rost on lead guitar and vocals, and Marcus Greene on rhythm guitar and vocals.
The group plays a variety of music, but focuses mainly on soft rock and country.

Stephen Sagrera
and Friends

Stephen decided at almost fifty that he wanted to learn how to play guitar. Lucky for him, he had a few musician friends to show him the ropes.
He will be joined by Ronnie Vice, Clayton Choate, and Greg Sagrera. All four of these guys will be on guitar and vocals.
