Vermilion Parish Superintendent sends letter to all 87 other superintendents urging them to be in Baton Rouge

Vermilion Parish School Superintendent Jerome Puyau is asking all 87 school superintendents to be in Baton Rouge at the State Capitol to try and steer the “Educational Reform Train” back on the right path.
Puyau is asking the superintendents to be present at the House Education Committee on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Here is part of his letter:
“Over the past few years we superintendents have been watching the “Educational Reform Train” pass us by without allowing for us to climb aboard and help direct the path to its final destination. In fact, we were not asked to help design, build, or participate in the installation of the track. The original plans were developed, changed, tweaked, revised, and eventually changed again, all without our input. We have been waiting patiently for the train to slow down just enough to allow us to climb aboard and help steer it to a final destination. Well, the time has finally come! The train has been rerouted through Baton Rouge and will slow down for a short period of time for a much-needed inspection by our legislators”
Some of the bills that will be talked about will be dealing with student/assessment and student standards.
“I am personally asking each of you to be present at the House Education Committee meeting,” he said in his letter. “This is our chance to help persuade the legislators to make a difference by voting to slow down the train so that a set of Louisiana Standards can be developed from the framework if the CCSS.
“We can make a difference! We can help shape the future of education in Louisiana!”
The letter was sent out last week and Puyau said he plans to be in Baton Rouge. The letter is directly from him.
“I am personally asking everyone to attend to show unity and support for our legislators,” said Puyau on Monday. “The superintendents need to be involved and help shape the path of education in the future.”
