March Sadness

By they time this is read by anyone other than me, March will only have two days left.

Along with that we will know at least half of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game.

So by the time you read this there is a good chance that I will be balled up in the fetal position just weeping over my bracket.

Now, that’s not to say that I haven’t been crying over it already, and it all started with Dayton.

Who knew that one person could have so much disdain for a city that he has never even been to?

Hell, I barely even know where Dayton is. I know it is in Ohio, and thus ends everything I know about Dayton.

The only other fact I know about Dayton is I hate that school.

For no other reason than they blew my only chance at ever being a billionaire.

Warren Buffet, yes that Warren Buffet, was offering a billion dollars to anyone that could pick a perfect bracket.

Now, the odds of picking a perfect bracket are one in one quadrillion.

That’s 18 zeros in case you were curious.

Anyway, long story short, when Dayton beat Ohio State in the round of 64, they ruined all my chances of winning a billion dollars.

Now, I’m not the only one that is hating Dayton.

There are millions of people around the country that are loathing Dayton University.

Having said all that, and despite my hatred for Dayton, and even Mercer for that matter, but that’s a different story for a different day, these are the reasons I love March Madness.

Like I said before, this column was written on Friday, and at that point in time Dayton was only one of eight teams remaining in the race for the championship, as an 11 seed.

Even though they have destroyed my bracket, my chance at a billion dollars or even my chance at having some respect at work, I love it when underdog teams make their way into uncharted territory.

When Cinderella gets a chance to stay past midnight, that is a story I want to be a part of, even if it literally cost me a billion dollars.

So, because of the incredible run by the Dayton Flyers, I and millions of other people will not become billionaires, but we will get to see a run made only by a select few.

Very few double-digit ranked teams make it to the Sweet 16, and it’s always fun when we get to watch it happen.
