Cajuns fall to Creighton, 76-66

Cajuns fall 76-66 in heartbreaking opening round of NCAA tourney

Alas, the Cajuns dance is over so soon. The Cajuns fall to the Creighton Blue Jays, 76-66.

In a game that saw the Cajuns forego an early lead with 13 minutes remaining in the first half, the Cajuns hung close to Creighton in the first half, trailing 39-33 at the break.

UL ends its season at 23-12, marking a great effort and its first entry into the NCAA Tourney since 2005.

The Cajuns made a significant 9-0 run over a span of 3:20, retaking and opening a 50-46 lead over the Blue Jays with 12:07 left in regulation. Creighton proved to be strong defensively and battled its way back.

Creighton, led by the 28 points of Doug McDermott, extended its lead on the backs of its three-point shooters, leading 73-64 with a minute remaining. Forward Ethan Wragge went 3-3 during that second half stretch for the Jays.

In the end, the margin proved too great for the Cajuns to overcome. Creighton will face Baylor in the next round of the tournament.
