Abbeville Police charge Berwick man after Thursday’s hostage situation

On the morning of March 13 at 11:05 a.m., the Abbeville Police Department responded to an address on Third Street where they were advised that three armed people entered a residence looking for narcotics.
Upon the officer’s arrival, three males and one female were located on the premises and taken into custody. The victims alleged that one of the subjects entered the residence armed with pipes, and a torch demanding that an acquaintance of victims’ return their money and a vehicle that he took or he would harm them.
After interviewing all the victims and the suspects, APD charged Dean Beranek, 28, of Berwick, La with 2 counts of Armed Robbery, 3 counts of False Imprisonment with a Dangerous Weapon and 3 counts of Aggravated Assault. Beranek was then transported to Vermilion Parish Correctional Center where he awaits bond.
The other detained suspects were released without charges.
