Former Vermilion Parish athletes honored at banquet
Three former Vermilion Parish football athletes were honored at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s annual football award banquet this weekend.
The awards banquet was held to honor all of the UL football players for their outstanding season, and to pass out the awards won over the course of the season.
Ross Duhon, Hunter Stover and Zack Bourque were among the several UL football players to be given an award.
Duhon is a redshirt freshman and was awarded for his development over the course of the season for special teams.
Stover is an Abbeville resident that was awarded the specialist position award.
Sotver won this award for his kicking prowess. Stove returned from major knee surgery to share the kickoff duties with Brett Baer and played in 10 games, including three in which he handled every kickoff.
He kicked off 40 times for 2,509 yards, a 62.7 average with 13 touchbacks. He excelled at kick coverage, ranking second on the team with eight tackles (seven solo) with two tackle games against Tulane, South Alabama and Florida Atlantic.
Stover kicked off eight times, 61.8 average and two touchbacks in the New Orleans Bowl, making two solo tackles.
Zack Bourque also won a position award for special teams tackling.
Bourque is a former member of the North Vermilion Patriots football team.
Bourque won his award as a regular on multiple special teams units in all 12 games.
Bourque made four tackles during the season, and had an assisted stop vs. Tulane and a solo tackle vs. South Alabama.
Bourque ended the year by making two tackles on special teams vs. East Carolina in the New Orleans Bowl.
