Rep. Simone Champagne says she still lives in district despite selling her house in Jeanerette

Rep. Simone Champagne of District 49 said she still lives in the district.
The Daily Iberian Newspaper reported Wednesday that Champagne recently sold her house in Jeanerette.
According to the Iberian, her house sold for $92,000 on Jan. 27. She listed that house on the state representative’s voter registration.
Earlier in the year it was reported that Champagne purchased a home in Youngsville, which is outside of her district.
Champagne declined to comment to the Iberian about the sale of her property in Jeanerette. When contacted by the Meridional, Champagne admitted to selling her house. She also said her family purchased a home in Youngsville, but it is “not her domicile.” She did not say where she lived other than it was in District 49.
The law says if an elected official moves out of his or her district, it can no longer serve as a representative, according to the state constitution.
Back in June, Champagne announced she would not seek re-election in 2015.
