VC’s Zenon signs with McNeese State, Campbell signs with University of Findlay

Vermilion Catholic has the distinct privilege of having two of their players signing their letters of intent on Signing Day.

Left Tackle Kyle Zenon is signing with McNeese State University, and Mike Campbell has signed with the University of Findlay in Ohio.

“I think they deserve scholarships and a chance to further their career,” Head Coach Russell Kuhns said. “They both have had excellent careers here and deserve a chance to go somewhere and continue them.”

Offensive Coordinator Roch Charpentier feels that same way as Kuhns does.

“I am extremely proud of Kyle (Zenon) and Mike (Campbell),” Charpentier said. “It’s great to see two kids that have helped us be successful and be rewarded for the hard work that they have put in.”

Along with their coaches, the parents of both Zenon and Campbell are just elated at the opportunity their sons are going to get.

“I can’t really put into words how proud of this kid I am,” Zyle Zenon’s Father Chad Zenon said. “He worked hard every single day. This is something we have talked about since he was seven years old, and I could just cry right now.”

Mike Campbell’s mom feels the same as Kylie’s dad does.

“I am really proud of Mike,” Mike Cambell’s mother Teresta Ruffin said. “I feel like Mike really deserved this and he has worked hard, and he has earned this. His dream was to always play college football, and now he gets to do that. You couldn’t find a
prouder parent.”

As for the players themselves they are just happy that this is all behind them now, and they can now prepare for the future.

“It feels like a big weight has been lifted off of my shoulders,” Zenon said. “I don’t have to stress out anymore about what college I am going to choose. I picked McNeese and I feel good aboutit .”

Campbell’s thoughts were almost the exact same as Zenon’s.

“It feels great,” Campbell said. “I got all the stress off and I don’t have to worry. It feels great to finally have a decision, and now I can look forward.”

Both Zenon and Campbell had very distinct reasons for choosing the college where they will be spending the next four years of their football career.

Zenon chose McNeese because they offer a AggroBusiness degree program, and the fact that they are close to home.

Along with all those reasons, Zenon just felt at home with the coaching staff, and felt that it was a great place for him to spend this next chapter of his life.

Campbell decided to move to Ohio and play at the University of Findlay because it offers him something that he is very used to.

“I chose Findlay because it reminds me of here (VC),” Campbell said. “When I went up there for my visit, everyone seemed really close like a family. I really liked that, and that’s why I chose them.”

Campbell’s mom isn’t too excited about the thought of her son being so far away, but she is thrilled nonetheless.

“I’m going to be very sad for him to be so far away,” Ruffin said. “Like I told him though, I have supported him since he was a little kid, and I will continue to support him. Now, we may not make every game, but we will still support him.”
