Oris W. Jones
Oris W. Jones of Neptune, NJ was born July 3, 1933 in Abbeville LA, departed on January 1, 2012. He retired from Ft. Monmouth as a civilian employee. He was predeceased by his parents Vernice Joiner Campbell and Father Loveless “Son” Jones, Stepfather Rudolph Campbell Sr., Sister Shirley, Brothers: Youmeller and Rudolph Jr. Oris leaves following loved ones behind knowing that we will meet again in the promised land: His dear wife of 55 years Mary, DiLexus Michelle, Kenisha and Jason Jones.
Brothers Lee Arthur, Rev. Joe Louis, Alan Ray, Larry, Calvin, Pastor Donnie, Sam, Sisters Mattie, Bernice, Prophetess Annie Marie, Trula, Elizabeth, Lorena, Faye, Delores, Rose, Lula.
He leaves to mourn family members Uncle Alex Joiner of NOLA, one Aunt Theresa Banks of Maryland, Son Larry Petry, Grand Daughter Savetrial “Angel” and her husband Earl Perro, Great -Grand children, nieces, nephews, and a host of cousins and friends. Oris grew up in a Christian Community surrounded with family. He was baptized at the age of 12 at Pleasant Green Baptist Church Abbeville, LA. He went into the military as a teenager to serve his country during the Korean Conflict. While in the military he met his wife Mary. He became a member of Second Baptist Church, Long Branch, NJ. On June 7, 1998 being obedient unto God he became a Deacon of the Church, of which he took very seriously, serving GOD through service to others. He participated in many ministries, religious plays, and was a member of the Men’s chorus. He was very proud of participating in the Sr. Choir, of which he and his wife sang many duets together.
Oris served as Chaplin for the Deacons Union and Women’s auxiliary of Monmouth and Adjacent counties. He Served on the Board of Directors of the Monmouth Bible Institute. Oris was an active participant and supporter of the Seacoast Missionary Baptist Association Laymen’s Movement. Believing that Education is always important he attended four years of study and he was very proud to graduate from Monmouth Bible institute in 2008 at the 32nd Commencement Ceremony. Oris was never one for the spotlight and enjoyed serving his family and church. He always wanted to let his work speak for him. All services will be held at Second Baptist Church Long Branch 93 Liberty Street. January 13, 2012 @6:30 pm Memorial Service, and Saturday January 14th 10am Wake followed by Funeral at 11am.
