Boys & Girls Club hold annual field events
On May 1st members of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana’s Opelousas, New Iberia, Lafayette and Vermilion units participated in the 4th Annual Aaron’s Fun and Fitness Day at UL Track. Club members participated in a variety of track and field events ranging from the 50, 100, and 200 meter races to the long and broad jumps. In addition to these events all participants were also able to take part in a soccer clinic sponsored by Mike Woodall owner of Not Just Soccer located in Lafayette.
For the third year in a row the Vermilion Boys and Girls Club took first place overall. According to Brian Ford Director of the Vermilion Unit,”This event is a great opportunity for all of the children that attend the Boys and Girls Club throughout Acadiana. Club members have been learning about fitness and nutrition throughout the year in various programs offered at the club. This event gives them the opportunity to compete and build there self-confidence and self-esteem. Boys and Girls Clubs of Acadiana would like to thank Aaron’s Sales and Lease, Not Just Soccer, and Subway for making this event a success once again this year.”
Anyone who would like more information regarding the Boys and Girls Club or who is interested in registering for the clubs summer program can contact the Vermilion Boys and Girls Club at 898-9745.
