Second time around
The first time the Erath Bobcats and Delcambre Panthers met, the final score was 47-45, Erath, and that game was less than a week ago. This time around the score was a little different, but the outcome was the same, an Erath
victory, 65-55
“I think this time around we just had a little more practice time and that gave us the advantage,” Bobcats Head Coach Tommie Pillette said. “Now, that’s not taking anything away from Delcambre. They are a good team and played us hard.”
The extra practice time the Bobcats received paid off early in the game, with Erath jumping out to an early 14-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Starting point guard Aaron Green scored seven of the 14 points in the first quarter for the Bobcats.
The second quarter saw the Delcambre offense wake up a little bit. The Panthers scored 13 points in the second quarter, but the Dalcambre defense wasn’t able to slow down the Bobcats offense.
Erath’s lead at halftime grew to eight points, leading 29-21.
The achilles heel for the Panthers all season long has been the third quarter, and this game was no exception. Delcambre got outscored 14-10 in the third quarter.
Entering the fourth quarter the Panthers were down by 12 points, and tried as hard as they possibly could to get themselves back in the game.
To start the fourth, Delcambre went on a 6-0 run to close the gap to six points. Despite making a run, the Panthers were never able to close the gap any closer than four points.
“We made a run in the fourth quarter,” Delcambre Head Coach Johnny Tragmar said. “We just weren’t able to close the gap. We didn’t play with as much intensity as we normally do. That’s is what ultimately burned us.”
Leading the way for the Erath Bobcats was Aaron Green who scored a team and game high 25 points.
Erath also had big games from Elijah Mitchell and Alec Toups. Both managed to score 18 apiece.
Chavaun Walters led the way for the Panthers with 18 points.
Alex Barras was only two points behind Walters with 16.
This was the second time these two teams have met this season, and will meet for a third and final time on Dec. 17.
