Lady Bobcats hold on against Lady Pirates

After starting the season, 4-0, for the first time in Andrea Bernard’s tenure as head coach at Erath, the Lady Bobcats went on a three game losing streak.

That three game losing streak came to an end in the first round of the Parish Tournament, with a 33-29, nail biting victory over the Kaplan Lady Pirates.

It was a tight game from tip-off. At the end of the first quarter the Lady Bobcats held a slight four point lead of 9-5.

The defenseive pressure picked up in the second quarter for both teams, with only nine total points scored.

Despite the defensive pressure, the Lady Bobcats were able to extend the lead at halftime, 15-8.

At halftime the Lady Pirates must have made all the right changes because coming out of the break, Kaplan started the third quarter with a 5-0 run.

During that run Kendra Gum scored all five points.

Gum also went on to score nine of Kaplan’s 12 points in the third quarter.

The defense for the Lady Pirates also held strong, only allowing Erath to score six points.

When the whistle blew at the end of the third, Kaplan had closed the gap to just one point, giving Erath the 21-20, advantage entering the fourth quarter.

The Lady Bobcats started the fourth quarter off right with a Sydney Richardelle three. After both teams went back and forth the entire quarter, Gabby Harrington came up huge for the Lady Bobcats.

Harrington made four straight free throws with less than two minutes left on the clock to give Erath the 33-29 victory over Kaplan.

“Gabby (Harrington) came up big for us there at the end,” Head Coach Andrea Bernard said. “She was clutch with the free throw, but the entire team played well, especially on the defensive side of the ball.”

Leading the way in scoring for the Lady Bobcats was Caitlin Domingues, with 11.

The Lady Pirates Kendra Gum lead not only her team in scoring with 15, but the game as well.
