Vermilion Parish's Elementary student of the year, Carina Chargois, answers questions

Carina Chargois is a fifth grade student at Rene Rost Middle. She was recently named the public school elementary student of the year.

How old are you? I am 10 years old.

What grade are you in?
I am in the 5th grade

Your favorite subject in school? Why?
My favorite subject in school is math because I have always really understood math and I guess it has always been my favorite subject.

What is your worst subject? Why?

I don’t really have a worst subject because all of my classes are very stimulating and fun.

List all of your activities  in school!

In school I am in band, 4-H, TAG, and Talented Theatre.

How do you balance school and all of your extra things after school? How tough is it?

To balance my extra things after school I do my homework on the way to piano lessons, and on the way to dancing I read.
During basketball and softball seasons, I just try my best to get my homework done at school or I do it right after school. My Junior Daughter’s meetings are usually on Sundays so I don’t really have that much to do.
Although, sometimes my Girl Scouts meetings are on the same day.
I just leave one meeting earlier if I have to. I either do church choir or altar serving, but I normally serve because my church is short on altar servers. This really isn’t that tough to balance as long as I make an effort and put a lot of dedication and hard work into it.

If you had to do only one (extra school activity) for the remainder of the school year, which activity would you select? Why?

It would probably be band, because I really love learning new notes on the clarinet and having a chance to compete. Performing in concerts is also fun.

Tell us something about yourself. Not many people know about you.
When I am bored, I practice my handwriting just for fun, and so I can have better handwriting

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
I really can’t think of anything. God made me, and He doesn’t make mistakes. :)

Name the type of music you listen to and who is your favorite music artist. I really listen to everything like country, zydeco, hip hop, R&B, and rock. My favorite music artist would be Beyonce’ .

Pretend you could meet anyone in the world this summer, who would it be and why? 
It would probably be Gabby Douglas because she really inspired me when I found out all of the obstacles she went through to become such an amazing gymnast.

Any clue yet on what you want to do after high school?

I have thought about attending a good engineering college because that is really what I want to do when I grow up or even Harvard Law School. In TAG (Talented and Gifted) we are learning about law, and I actually had the chance to play an attorney. I thought that was really cool.
