Vermilion Parish School Board will name temporary board member to open District F seat created by sudden death of Charles Campbell
The Vermilion Parish School Board is expected to name a temporary replacement for District F School Board member Charles Campbell.
A special meeting will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday to name Campbell’s replacement.
Campbell passed away last week after a short battle with cancer. He had been a school board member for 20 years and received no opposition as a board member.
A special election will be held on Oct. 24 to serve the remaining three years of Campbell’s term.
In the meantime, someone has to fill his seat until the election.
The Campbell family members normally give a recommendation to board members of whom they would like to temporarily occupy the chair. None of Campbell’s children live in Campbell’s district.
School Board President Chris Gautreaux said school board members can nominate a person. Once the nominations are closed, then the board will vote.
The newly appointed person is expected to remain in the chair until January and will be paid by the school board like a normal board member. The person will collect a monthly salary of $800 as he or she sits on the board.
Former School Board member of District F, Kibbie Pillette, is a name being mentioned as a possible Campbell replacement. Pillette was the school board member before Campbell.
If anyone who lives in District F wants to be a temporary school board member, they should contact a school board member.
