Vermilion Parish School board meeting with insurance companies set
The Vermilion Parish School Board has set up an insurance meeting that will allow school employes and school board members to listen to two insurance companies, who are vying for the health insurance business from the parish school system.
Vermilion Parish School Board President Anthony Fontana, at a regular scheduled meeting last week, explained to the board members and the audience that the school board is inviting representatives from United Healthcare and Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance companies.
The special meeting will take place in Abbeville High’s auditorium.
Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Health Care confirmed the date for March 7 at Abbeville High School. It will begin at 5 p.m.
Fontana would like the two companies to explain what type of coverage they are offering the school system and what the employees insurance rates will be.
He requested that each school board member come up with questions to ask the insurance representatives.
The representatives will also take questions from some school employees, who will be in the audience.
The school board has been talking about health insurance for the last few months. A school board health insurance committee was created to help decide on what insurance carrier the school board will go with.
However, the school board committee could not decide after learning about three possible companies. They voted 7-3 not to go with what Fontana and School Board Insurance Committee President Stacy Landry recommended. The two recommended United Healthcare, the insurance company the school board has today.
