63 year old man dies in three-car accident on I-10 near New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - A 63-year-old Pearl River man was killed Tuesday night (Dec. 31) after a three-vehicle accident on Interstate 10 eastbound near Causeway Boulevard in Jefferson Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop B.

The accident happened shortly before 11 p.m. after authorities say William Grosz lost control of his 2006 Mazda Miata and collided with two vehicles as he attempted to merge into eastbound I-10 traffic from the Causeway Boulevard on-ramp.

When Grosz lost control, authorities say the Mazda rotated in a counter clockwise direction and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado driven by 25-year-old Joel Sistrunk of Sumrall, Miss. that was traveling in the left center lane. The Mazda then struck a 2011 Toyota Tundra driven by 53-year-old Richard Macaluso of New Orleans that was traveling east in the right lane, authorities said. Grosz received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said.

Impairment and seat belt use for Grosz is unknown at this time. Sistrunk and Macaluso were both properly restrained and received minor injuries in the crash, authorities said. In addition, authorities said both drivers submitted to a breath alcohol test that showed no detectable signs of alcohol.

The crash remains under investigation.
